Your
radio requests for the single "Untouchable" would be much
appreciated! Check out the TOTALLY REVAMPED radio
requests page for more info.
The
Glenn Tilbrook Field Staff
is a group of dedicated fans who help promote Glenn's albums and tours.
We do this in several ways. When supplies are available, it means
we put up posters for gigs and distribute flyers in exchange for free
entry to the gigs. But there are plenty of "freelance" field
staffers who do things like call local radio stations to request Glenn's
music, bring uninitiated friends to the concerts, and generally do
whatever we can to make sure the people who are interested in Glenn
know what he's up to. Each field staffer does as little or as much
as he or she wants to or can.
My involvement
began when I saw a similar idea on the Aimee Mann fan site, DrivingSideways.com.
Like Glenn, Aimee is on her own independent label and has limited
resources for promotion. Some fans of hers banded together to form
a street team, which works closely with her record label to promote
her music at a grassroots level. I wondered if an idea like that could
work for Glenn! After
some encouraging dialogue with DrivingSideways.com site owner Russ
Nordmeyer I was convinced it could.
Glenn
Tilbrook Field Staff
Soon
after I began organizing, I found out that Glenn's U.S. label, What
Are Records? already had a street team in place! They called it
a field staff. They had better resources than I did, so I created
this section for my site and sent all potential field-staffers their
way.
The
Glenn Tilbrook Field Staff was very successful during it's first two
years, and membership was high. But in 2002 What Are Records? had
to withdraw most of their support. This meant that there were no posters
or other materials available to be sent out. Quixotic Records (Glenn's
U.K. label) did their best to take up the slack, but the Fall 2002
tour was already underway when the changeover took place, and it was
too late to print things up. The field staffers were left with only
downloadable posters designed by W.A.R?, which were not very user
friendly.
Quixotic
Records had planned to start up a new, revitalised official field
staff when Glenn toured for his new album,
but that didn't turn out to be workable for them, so there are no
posters being distributed at this time. However,
there are lots of other ways you can help get the word out about Glenn!
Current Field Staff Projects
One
crucial thing you can do anywhere is call radio stations and request
the single from Glenn's current album.
Michelle
has put together a fantastic list of radio
stations that we can call or email to make requests. Contacting
them could make a really big difference in the amount of exposure
Glenn gets - especially if you call several stations and do it often!
It will also be helpful if you do this in the days leading up to a
gig so word gets out that he's in town! (It's also really helpful
to mention the date and venue for the gig when you call.) If you have
any questions about this at all, just email Michelle.
She is the master requester!
I have
cooked up lots of other ideas to keep Glenn in the spotlight - too
many to list here, so I gave them their own grassroots
promotion page. You are also cordially invited to let your imagination
run wild and employ whatever methods you come up with yourself. I
love to hear about what you maverick field staffers get up to, so
feel free to email me
about your activities! I would also be very grateful if you email
Michelle about any stations that you think should be added to
the radio request list. Likewise, you should let her know if a station
near you changes format or disappears, and should be removed from
the list.
Thanks
for supporting Glenn's music!
