Open House Collection is complete!
December 19, 2000

The audio version of Glenn's 'Open House' interview is finally ready. Big thanks to Roger for getting the digitizing done despite health problems and amidst Christmas preparations! You can find it at the same download page as the video version.

Open House: text version
December 17, 2000

For those who can't watch video, there is now a text version of the Open House interview. Still working on the audio one, but one day…

By the way, I discovered the birthplace of my Squeeze stamp. Turns out it was not made in Australia, but the U.K.! It spent some time in OZ, then lived in Florida for a while, and is now enjoying what I can only assume is it's first Oregonian winter. It is a well-travelled stamp. If you look at step 5 from the link above you can see what the top of it looks like - sparkly!

Glenn on Open House
December 12, 2000

Glenn appeared on the British daytime talk show Open House on Dec. 6th. It was great! He had a nice longish chat with Gloria about various things and then performed 'Parallel World' with a band that included Chris Braide on keys and a guy who looks vaguely like Bruce Willis on drums. (Well, I didn't really get a close look…) In between ex–Radio One DJ, Mike Read, talked about his new book.

Lucky for those of you who missed it, my friend Roger converted the whole thing into a RealMedia video, and made several VERY nice pages of vidcaps too. There are grandiose plans for adding a text version (à la Routes of Rock and Bandstand) and an audio–only version, but those aren't ready yet. Besides, I said Popped in Crashed Out was coming soon, and do you see it? No, me neither. I recommend an attitude of cautious optimism on that front. It may turn up yet!

Tidbit of the day: You'll never guess what Susan sent me for my birthday. A rubber stamp of Squeeze c. 1982! I wish I could scan a photo of the stamp itself, but you'll have to settle for a scan of it's product.

Certainly not official Squeeze merchandise.

Interestingly, this is not a one of a kind item, and it was made in Australia. Who knew?

Radio Suffolk Interview
December 7th, 2000

The Radio Suffolk interview is here, and it's great! Stephen Foster just asks Glenn a few questions and then sits back and lets him talk. He tells some stories about early Squeeze days, explains why he hasn't had people on stage with him as often during the recent pub gigs, and gives us an acoustic preview of his FANTASTIC new song, 'This is Where You Ain't'.

By the way, all of the new songs that Glenn has done on the radio and during his fall tour are still "works in progress" at this point. On the album they will be recorded with a full band rather than acoustically, and I doubt even Glenn knows exactly what they will end up sounding like! He is also hoping to tour with a full band after the album is released.

New tour pics!
December 6th, 2000

Glenn's tour ended last night, but thanks to fellow fans Helen and Paula you can relive some of it through the photos they graciously sent in!

Also, although this is not strictly speaking "news", I finally updated the Audio & Video section of this site. Everything I have put up since the page started is now listed there for your convenience. I also fixed that bad link to the excellent 2kool4radio interview. Enjoy!

Quixotic Records & Squeezefan.com
-and-
Upcoming TV appearance

December 1, 2000

The Quixotic Records site is finally open, and it's really nice! You can order Parallel World there, and all the other Quixotic releases (Squeeze's Domino, Nick Harper's albums). The shipping charges are included, and they're the same price NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE, so it is an excellent place for people overseas to get the CDs. (£4.50 total for Parallel World) It also has tour info and separate sections for each artist with bios and stuff. Fun!

For some reason my browser won't let me navigate the Glenn section, though. I'm sure this problem will be resolved soon, but in the mean time I wouldn't want anyone to suffer needlessly. In case you too have technical difficulties, here is a direct link to the most vital part, the pictures. The bio is the same as the one at glenntilbook.com.

The Official Squeeze Site, Squeezefan.com, closed on Tuesday. Mild panic ensued. Although I know everyone is understandably sad about it, I hope to set your minds at ease somewhat by pointing out that the site is not going away. It will stay there as an archive, and may even revive if Squeeze re-forms. Also, the Squeezefan mailing list is completely separate and will continue to be a lively source of discussion of all things Squeeze.

Picking up some of the slack, the Quixotic Records site has a section for Squeeze which will have official news, touring info if they tour, etc. And David Golden's excellent Squeezenet.co.uk page is…well, excellent! There is also talk of new webpages being created, and smaller sites expanding. Still, there is no doubt that Chris and Jenn Beckett created an AMAZING site, and there is nothing else like it on the web. Thanks so much to the Becketts for your years of hard work, creativity, and dedication to the band! Jenn is still doing the Official Glenn Site, of course, but Chris is taking a much-deserved break.

Glenn will be on Channel Five's show Open House with Gloria Hunniford on December 6th. He will be interviewed and will perform 'Parallel World' live. Show time is 2:15-3:30 p.m.

Glenn's last gig for this tour is December 5th in Wavenden, but there is a persistent rumor that he is also scheduled to appear at The Mean Fiddler on Dec. 15th. Glenn's management says he is definitely NOT planning to be there.

Are you wondering what to do with your wonderful scanned photos from recent Glenn gigs now that Squeezefan.com won't be posting them? Send them to me! Monday is my birthday and they would make a most appropriate gift. If they're clear I'll put them up here!

New source for the CD single

Interviews: London Live and Radio Wales!

November 23, 2000

Bruce McKenzie from Townsend Records has written to tell me that not only is he a big ol' Glenn fan, but he is also working diligently to promote Glenn's solo work at Townsend's online shop. He says they can guarantee next day delivery of Parallel World within the U.K., 3-4 days to Europe, and one week delivery anywhere else (U.S., Canada, Oz, etc.). Impressively, Glenn's single is right there on the front page of the site. They also have a fair number of Squeeze and Jools Holland albums. And Glenn's name? Spelled correctly, first and last.

I have added Glenn's November 6th appearance on London Live Radio to the growing number of radio shows archived here. Lots of people outside of the U.K. have already heard this one, since it aired soon after those of us on the Squeezefan mailing list figured out that most of the radio stuff is webcast. But I'm sure plenty of people missed it too, so here it is (direct download, 1.2 M). Bon appétit!

Just in! The BBC Wales interview with Alan Thompson has finally been sufficiently edited to appear here! This is a truly excellent interview that you should not miss!! Alan interviews Glenn and spins disks as only a true fan can, valiantly maintaining his composure in spite of the fact that "Glenn Tilbrook is playing my guitar!" I could go on and on and on, and I probably will on the download page.

Radio Scotland Interview
November 21, 2000

I have added an interview with Glenn on BBC Radio Scotland from way back in August. At the time he was doing a lot of festivals and had grand plans for releasing his album as early as January 2001 (current estimates seem to be edging ever forward…the last date I heard was April or May). Keep in mind as you listen to this interview than any time-related info (i.e. "I'll be playing Edinburgh soon") is now null and void unless you have a TARDIS or something. Before the interview started he played "I Won't See You", and he also played "Take Me, I'm Yours" in the middle. Both of those have been cut out because the sound quality was pretty low. Click here to download; it's about a megabyte and runs for six and a half minutes.

Coming Soon: Glenn on Radio Wales (fantastic interview by the lovely Alan Thompson), and 'Popped In Crashed Out'

Happy Thanksgiving, Americans! Gobble-gobble.

Locating the CD
November 16, 2000

U.K. people have been looking for Parallel World in shops, but not all of them have been finding it! At least one store reportedly sold out and has already ordered a second batch, but more commonly the complaint is that the shop never did have it and (gasp!) doesn't intend to stock it.

I think that sort of shop needs a little extra education. (And no, I'm not talking about the kind that leads you to wondering whether a sock full of sand will leave bruises…I'm thinking of a strictly nonviolent approach.) What I want to suggest is that, if you have the inclination, you might want to call various CD shops in your area and ask about it. (You could do this even if you already have the CD - after all, they don't know that!) However, you must be prepared for blasphemous speculation about the possibility of it not selling. Particularly sad cases might even ask, "Who?" Do not lose you composure; remember, you are helping those people to (re)discover the joy of Glenn's music! It is a noble endeavor. If you want to go the extra mile, you could even make a note of which stores don't plan to get it and either call them back in a few days or get some friends or family members to call. Once they know there is interest they will probably get the CD.

By the way, I think the proper response to "I can order it for you" would be "I can order it from Amazon." Amazon scares the crap out of non-virtual shops.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the Official Glenn Site for announcements about upcoming radio and TV appearances. He will be on ITV's 'Popped In Crashed Out' late tomorrow night, and interviewed on BBC Radio Suffolk on Saturday. If someone in Suffolk can tape the show for my page, please let me know! I'd be very grateful.

It's Here!!!
November 13, 2000

Looking for a good home. Will travel.

Glenn's CD single Parallel World is now available at stores in the U.K.! The Quixotic Records site is not finished yet, but you can purchase the CD at online U.K. stores such as Amazon.co.uk and CD Shop. (I haven't ever actually used CD Shop, so I can't vouch for them. I just thought some people might be anti-Amazon.) If you're ordering overseas you can expect to pay something around $9 U.S., $15 Canadian, or $19 Australian, but that includes shipping. All the links above ship overseas. The online CD stores both affectionately refer to Glenn by his nickname, "Glen".

A Little Smackerel
November 11, 2000

Glenn finally did turn up on 'London Today' on the 9th! It was a short but sweet kind of affair. In fact, if I say anything at all about it there won't be any point in listening, so I'll just allow you to download the 440K RealAudio file by clicking here. (It doesn't get it's own page.) Thanks very much to Gill for providing me with this and many other recent audio files!

Also, Glenn was interviewed for an hour today on BBC Radio Wales by Alan Thompson. How I managed to miss this one is a mystery to me, because it was netcast and at a reasonable time! (In my time zone, I mean.) I think there was some sort of biological misunderstanding, because I was asleep. Anyway, those who heard it remarked that it was really nice to hear such an in-depth interview. Helen sent an excellent summary to the Squeezefan list. She reports that Alan is a Genuine Fan and hence was able to discuss various phases of Glenn's career (e.g. the mid-eighties long hair thing, which drew Glenn's comment, "Style and me have never been particularly comfortable bedfellows"). The interview was interspersed with songs by Glenn on guitar, and also tracks that Alan played from CDs, which included "King George Street" and "Letting Go". Go, Alan!

Speaking of CDs...only two more days until Parallel World is unleashed on the U.K.!

Janice Long Interview
November 9, 2000

Well, Glenn was MIA for the 'London Today' show yesterday, leaving fans bewildered when they came home to find their VCRs devoid of Glenny content. There was no mention of him on the show at all as far as I know. But the Janice Long interview from Radio 2 last week is now up here for those who missed it or would like to hear it again. You know, I feel bad when I post misinformation at this site, but my mistakes seem small compared to Janice's comment that Squeeze came to an end 18 years ago! (In actual fact they did, but I guess no one told her they reformed two years later...)

For upcoming Glenn radio and TV appearances (and gigs, of course!) I refer you to the Official Glenn Site, where they have Real News from Glenn's Actual Management.

Lots of Good News and a Little Bad
November 5, 2000

I will give you the bad news first - I'll do it fast, like pulling off a Band-Aid (plaster). Glenn's solo CD single release date has been delayed by a week. You can now expect it in U.K. shops, both virtual and non-virtual, on November 13th.

The good news is that Glenn's interview with Jonathan Ross is now up here for your listening pleasure. It's really a good one! (I know I always say that, but have I lied so far?)

But wait! There's more! Glenn is going to be on BBC London Live Radio TOMORROW, Monday November 6th at the following local times:

8:35 p.m. U.K.
3:35 p.m. Eastern U.S./Canada
12:35 p.m. Pacific U.S./Canada

If you're in Australia or Japan it will be Tuesday morning, November 7th (Tokyo 5:35 a.m., Sydney 7:35 a.m.). You can listen to the live webcast from the London Live site.

Also, Chris Beckett from the Squeezefan site reports that Glenn will be on ITV on Wednesday, November 8th, on the show 'London Today'. There will be an interview and a band performance of Parallel World. (!!!) Sadly, I don't know anyone in London. If you think you might be able to send me a tape of this show, would you please, please contact me? I will do my very best to make it worth your while.

VH1 Interview Available
-and-
Other newsy items

October 31, 2000

Happy Halloween!! Glenn surprised us all by popping onto U.K.'s VH1 a few days ago for an interview. You can download the interview as a handsome matching set of three mp3s from here. There was only a little bit of singing; Glenn sang the first minute of Parallel World, but it has been cut out. However! It's a great interview - not just the same old questions, and to my delight Glenn elaborates further on the ever unfolding story of the Butlin's Talent Contest he was in as a 12 year old.

Glenn will be on BBC Radio 2 again this Saturday (Nov. 4th)! He'll be on Jonathan Ross' show, which is supposed to be very funny, although I've never heard it. It airs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the U.K. Worldwide you can listen via the Radio 2 web site at these local times:

5-8 a.m. Canada/US Eastern
2-5 a.m. Canada/US Pacific
9-12 p.m. Australia (Sydney)
7-10 p.m. Japan

As you can see, these times are no more friendly than last time for those of us in The Americas, but Japanese and Australian fans have cause to rejoice. The Official Glenn Site (see below) has narrowed these times down a bit to 11:30-12:10 U.K. time, but my experience is that these things can be unpredictable. Besides, the Radio 2 website takes at least a half hour to load.

As by now you may have guessed, the OFFICIAL Glenn site is now open! It has cute pictures of Glenn roaming the streets of Sydney in some kind of velveteen jacket, protecting his sensitive English eyes from the merciless Aussie sun with very dark glasses. He looks mysterious and hip. Apparently the jacket is part of a whole suit as seen here (Studio 22 pic). I want to know who has been shopping with Glenn lately. That would be front page news for my site. Speaking of news, the Official GT site will be an excellent source of Real News, not to mention up to date Tour Info.

Example photo, shamelessly pilfered from the Official site

OOPS!
October 25, 2000

I gave the wrong times for Glenn's Radio 5 appearance on Friday. The correct times are:

11 a.m. UK
6 a.m. Eastern Time (US/Canada)
3 a.m. Pacific (US/Canada)
7 p.m. Tokyo
9 p.m. Sydney

The show runs for one hour, and Glenn's interview may be any time in that hour. I'm really sorry if anyone missed the show because my mistake. (And I hope I got it all right this time!! You may want to double check on the World Clock site.) In any case, the interview will show up here as an mp3 eventually. Happy listening!

Radio Update
October 23, 2000

It turns out Glenn's appearance on the Nicky Campbell show on BBC Radio 5 will be this Friday, Oct. 27th from 11am to 12pm. People outside of the U.K. may be able to listen via the Radio 5 website. If you need help figuring out what time the show will be on where you live, try this website. For Canadians and Americans it doesn't look so good (7am Eastern, 4am Pacific), but if you live in Australia or Japan it will be on in the evening.

Interviews and 'Parallel World' Clips
October 20, 2000

Glenn appeared on BBC Radio 2 this week on Janice Long's show. Members of the Squeezefan list were forewarned, and it also streamed via Radio 2's web site, so some non-Brits got to hear it too. That means it got a pretty wide reception among fans, but I will still put it up here when I get a copy for those who missed it. Janice played the new single, Parallel World, so I finally got to hear it! It is pretty cool. Janice thinks so too. She selected it as her "choice track of the week", which means if you hurry you can listen to a clip (streaming RealAudio) from Radio 2's web site. (Too late!) You can hear a different clip at the official Glenn Tilbrook site.

Glenn has some more upcoming radio dates that fans have discovered. Amanda emailed Jonathan Ross (also on Radio 2) to ask him to interview Glenn and was told Glenn is already scheduled to appear on his show Saturday, November 25th. The show runs from 10am to 1pm UK time. Kay reports that Glenn is also supposed to be appearing on Nicky Campbell's show on Radio 5, but I haven't been able to find out when.

There are some great new reviews and very nice pics from Glenn's recent pub shows at the Squeezefan site! You can read about Glenn's latest adventures onstage and off (still singing in the toilet, but this time invited the audience in with him) and how the new "Glenn Solo" gigs differ slightly from the "Pub Entertainer" ones. Basically, he is now using a setlist, so he doesn't often take requests, and has not been inviting people up to sing with him except on "Perfect Day". As one fan put it, "If anything we got more Glenn to the pound, which is no bad thing."

About that single…
October 10, 2000

Glenn's single "Parallel World" is now being sold at his gigs, so if you're going to one be sure to bring extra money. It's supposed to be fantastic, although I haven't heard it yet. The price is £4, and according to Liz Field of the Squeezefan list it's worth every penny. She writes:

I definitely recommend that you purchase the single. Not only because it's Glenn and it's a great song (although I am sure I read somewhere what it was a dance track - not like any dance track I've heard!), but also because the information on the inside is very funny.

Also, word on the street is that there might be some hiccups with the Quixotic Records site. In case it's not sorted out by Nov. 6th, do not despair! The single will still be available through online U.K. CD stores, and I bet they'll ship overseas. I'll let you know where and when it's being sold as soon as I find out myself. I am in the same boat as many of you - stranded far, far away from any Glenn concerts.

Also in the news: There is reportedly an email address to write to for comments on the CD insert. Some of you will already have discovered that the address (gt@glenntilbrook.com) didn't work at first. Now it does! You can use that address or this one: glenntilbrook@home.com. (By the way, you may also write to either address for "regular" fan mail, as the FAQ now reflects.)

Pics from Glenn's Blackheath Show
October 2, 2000

Glenn played solo on a mixed bill at Blackheath Concert Halls recently. Teen band Logo also played that night, and their frontman, Billy Hunt, sent me some great pics of Glenn's performance. Click here to see all four pics in their full size.

Squeeze on Bandstand
Historic appearance!

This is a video of Squeeze on the TV show "American Bandstand." It's old, and the quality of the picture suffers from it's age and the many format changes it went through to get to it's present RealMedia form. However, it chronicles a pivotal time in Glenn's career. This was their last show at the end of their Sweets from a Stranger tour, and they were flying home that evening. The band would break up a few months later, and Glenn would go on to make an album with Chris Difford, his first non-Squeeze project. Squeeze reformed a few years after that, but they hardly ever perform songs from Sweets live, so for me it was a real treat to see them do "I Can't Hold On" and "I've Returned." Glenn's outfit also gets the Corina Seal of Approval in this one. Thanks very much to Susan for this video and the toothbrush one!

Options, options! I am trying something new this time. As always, you can simply download the video at it's own download page. However, if you can't watch that you might want to listen to an audio-only version supplemented with video stills and your own record collection, or visit the text page (which also has pictures). Enjoy!

Glenn Mailing List
September 30, 2000

There is a new mailing list for Glenn news! I put the subscription info in the FAQ. It is a read-only list, so you can't post. It's run by Chris and Jenn Beckett, who also maintain the official Squeezefan site and the "coming soon" official Glenn Tilbrook site (which, by the way, is coming VERY soon indeed). Links to those sites are in the FAQ too.

New Videos!
September 29, 2000

"Routes of Rock" is now here! Big thanks to Gill (of parka picture fame) and Roger. You can download the RealMedia video (7.7 M) and let Glenn and Chris take you on a five minute tour of their old stomping grounds in London. Glenn made a superior sartorial selection that day, and Chris wasn't looking half bad either. Not wishing to deviate from the norm, the makers of "ROR" followed the age–old tradition of putting a "Glenn Tilbrook" caption under Chris and vice versa. In case you can't use video, Gill has kindly transcribed it for you here. Alternatively, you can look at the video stills and imagine what they are saying.

Also brand new to the site is the famous (or perhaps completely unknown to you) toothbrush interview! This is a little thing Glenn did on an American show about stuff people collect - apparently he collects the toothbrushes that get thrown at the band when they play Tempted ("I bought a toothbrush..."). It wasn't announced, but a few fans just happened to have the show on when he appeared. Only a handful had the necessary lightning quick reflexes and a tape ready in the VCR. The results have been passed around quite a bit, and my copy is not "first generation," so the quality is a little bit fuzzy. However, you can still see and hear everything, and the download is not very long because it's only a small file. Besides, how often do you get to see Glenn talk? (Twice, today! Lucky you.) If you can't watch video it's also available in audio only. It has it's own download page.

Touring,
Cover Art,
and One Year Ago Today

September 27, 2000

Wow! Glenn has twenty-seven upcoming dates in the U.K. and Ireland from now through early December. His CD single is supposed to be available starting Nov. 6th. It's not being sold at the gigs yet, but the cover art for it has been revealed. It's on the Solo Album page now.

I also happened to run across a good Aussie review of a Glenn solo gig from exactly a year ago today. It's not so important that the guy who wrote it only gets half the song titles right, what matters is that he shows genuine appreciation for Glenn (and his hair). Besides, he manages to squeeze in a reference to Deptford Fun City. It's good - go read! (Oops, that link didn't work! I fixed it.)

Glenn to release a CD single soon!

Chris Beckett from Squeezefan.com writes:
We have just heard from management that Glenn will be releasing his first solo work during his solo acoustic tour in the UK and Ireland. It is a single called 'Parallel World' which is co-written with Chris Braide. The single will also feature a writing collaboration with Ron Sexsmith called 'By The Light Of The Cash Machine' and a piano version of 'Parallel World', both of which will not be on the upcoming album. For anyone who wants to buy this outside of the UK and Ireland, Quixotic Records are currently constructing their website, www.quixoticrecords.com. The site will have a secure server in place for you all to order, not only Parallel World, but also any other Quixotic products with your credit card. Delivery will be 1-4 weeks (depending on where you are in the world)

For information about Glenn's tour dates in the U.K. and Ireland this autumn and winter, visit the Tour Dates page at Squeezefan.com. Glenn's solo album is now expected to be released in late March 2001, and afterward he hopes to tour the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Japan, America, and Canada. (Yay!)

Also in the news: A benevolent fan has volunteered to send me a copy of "Routes of Rock"! I will have it available here in some form as soon as I can, but that probably won't be for at least a few weeks. However, I'm still trying to track down the interview with Glenn on BBC Radio Scotland. Anyone? Last chance to be a hero!

IT'S (UN)OFFICIAL! This site is finally up!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GLENN!
August 31st, 2000

Just in time for Glenn's birthday, and after many months of toil, my site is at long last open! I would like to thank everyone who helped me troubleshoot during its "testing phase", especially Mallory, who was my harshest (and therefore most valuable!) critic. To those who are visiting for the first time, welcome! I hope you enjoy the site.

Warmest wishes to the birthday boy!

Begging portion
A necessary evil!

To my great disappointment, I have failed utterly in my efforts to secure a copy of the recent London airing of "Routes of Rock," featuring Chris and Glenn. Isn't there SOMEONE out there who would be willing to make me a copy so I can share it with the good people of Squeezeland? Pretty please? You only have to mail it to Gloucestershire, and I would be happy to refund any tape/shipping costs. (I do not live in Gloucestershire, but my friend Roger does, and he will convert it to RealMedia for the page.)

I also missed Glenn on Radio Scotland, and would love, love, love to put a copy of that interview up here. Anyone who can help, please get in touch! Thank you!

Glenn at Cambridge Folk Festival
July 30, 2000

Glenn played at the Cambridge Folk Festival, and on August 2nd he appeared briefly on a BBC Radio 2 show of highlights from the event. You can listen to a little Glenn chat and a very nice live acoustic recording of "Labelled with Love" here. The announcer mistakenly states that Glenn has "just released a solo album", so don't get confused by that! His album is not due out until 2001.
