Of
course everyone was interested! Glenn's clothing is a source of unnatural
interest to a lot of fans. In fact, this particular post spawned a
whole thread of people writing in and speculating on what the fur
could be, since Glenn is a vegetarian and seemed an unlikely person
to be wearing real fur. One list member falsely claimed to have the
answer: "As for the silver fur trim on Glenn's coat, I have it on
good authority that it is not the pelt of some unfortunate seal, but
meticulously and lovingly assembled from hair clippings of the Queen
Mother or Margaret Thatcher, or possibly both."
As
the controversy raged on, at least one fan actually approached him
and asked him about it at a gig. Anne told the Squeezefan mailing
list her story, "I plucked up the courage to ask if he would
sign the poster that I'd 'acquired' and my tickets. He was great -
really friendly and that's how I sort of dropped the 'furry Glenn'
thing into the conversation. I told Glenn that there'd been a little
discussion about his hood being "fur" when he was a vegetarian and
that's when he laughed and said that it was artificial and then went
and got it for me to see! He didn't say whether or not he was still
a vegetarian - but he did tell me how much he loved his coat because
he could stuff loads of things into the pockets!"
